About Us

Ray Huerta

An artist who has been on a creative journey since the age of seven. It seems that I have always had an interest in fine art and commercial art, from Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel with all its swirling figures and colors, to Walt Disney’s 1960’s tv show “Wonderful World of Color”.
I was born in Escondido, Ca. and while going through public education I worked in all the artistic mediums that I could get my hands on. I found that I enjoyed them, I even entered many local competitions and won.

My artistic education continued at Palomar college. I took on many artistic courses that I was drawn to in my early years. From life drawing to cartooning and architecture perspective to abstract color painting. But I still had a passion to try other art forms and mediums. So I transferred after two years to The California Institute of the Arts in 1980.
At CalArts I enrolled in the School of Film and Video Character Animation Program. Here I took all my artistic knowledge to communicate an idea on film. But I also found that I was intuitively knowledgeable in color and design. More so in color.
I have worked in character animation, character design, storyboarding, video gaming, color comps, and art director for many years.

Then in 2010 a friend and art teacher of mine became gravely ill with lung cancer and a brain stroke. He had no family members left. So I took time away from my life and artistic career to help him learn how to talk, walk, eat, and move his life forward to a healing recovery. But in 2014 William Roode lost his battle to brain cancer, and I was left with his little dog Gatsby, along with all his worldly belongings and works of art.
Then in 2015 was trying to pick up where I had left off to recover my life. When I was put in a difficult financial situation for many years. But like the phoenix rising from the ashes, I was drawn to color once more.
And that is how my website, illumecolorstudio.com was born. Here you will find a wide variety of my services, knowledge, and products. So take the time to explore and I am sure you will find that we can work together to help you fill your artistic needs.
